Chelsea have allegedly arranged a medical for Boca Juniors star Aaron Anselmino ahead of his move worth around £17 million this summer.

Since the Todd Boehly-led Clearlake Capital's takeover, the Blues have been on a mission to add a host of young prospects to their ranks. They have recently signed the likes of Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, and Caleb Wiley after signing Angelo and Romeo Lavia last year.

Last month, Argentine sports outlet DSports Radio stated that Chelsea are close to finalising a transfer to rope in Anselmino this month. The Blues are thought to have agreed to pay an initial fee of £14 million and bonuses of around £3 million to Boca Juniors for the player.

Now, according to Argentine newspaper Ole, the west London outfit have booked a medical for Anselmino. The Blues have agreed to allow the 19-year-old star to stay at Boca Juniors on a temporary deal until next summer, with an option to recall him in December this year.

Anselmino, who is said to be adept at playing as a defensive midfielder, has made 10 appearances across competitions for his boyhood club so far. He has scored a goal and also helped record seven shutouts.

Chelsea, on the other hand, currently have a plethora of central defensive options. They have recently signed Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer, and also have Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, and Alfie Gilchrist as options.

Chelsea not in talks to sign ex-Manchester United midfielder, reveals Fabrizio Romano

In his Daily Briefing column for Caught Offside, journalist Fabrizio Romano insisted that the Blues are not aiming to sign Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira. He wrote:

"I don't want to deny any colleague but I don't have information on talks between [them] and Andreas Pereira, or [them] and Fulham so far, despite what has been reported in Brazil. Chelsea's focus is on a right-footed winger, a striker, and a goalkeeper. On Pereira's future in general, it will depend on opportunities and what kind of proposals he will receive."

Pereira, who was at Manchester United between 2011 and 2022, has bagged eight goals and laid out 15 assists in 82 matches for Fulham.

The Blues, meanwhile, have spent close to £74 million this summer.
