Barcelona keen on signing 3 Spanish players from the EURO 2024 winning squad - Reports

Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing three Spanish players who helped La Roja win Euro 2024. With pre-season in full swing and the next season around the corner, the Blaugrana are working towards signing Nico Williams, Mikel Merino and Dani Olmo.

Their interest in Nico Williams is hardly surprising, following the winger's brilliant output last season with Athletic Bilbao. He racked up 16 goal contributions in 31 La Liga games last season. He also continued that form during the summer, scoring twice and providing an assist in the Euros.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta openly announced their interest in Williams, while the player was on international duty. When asked if the club could afford the 22-year-old's €58 million release clause, he notably told Catalunya Radio (via Football Espana):

“As of today, yes. There will be good news in terms of the sporting side of things, we will announce things soon. We are working on the deals that Hansi has requested.”

Now, according to journalist Adrian Sanchez (via Barca Universal), the club have placed Nico Williams at the top of their priority list. Closely behind him, they have placed Mikel Merino, who scored Spain's extra-time goal to get past Germany in the quarter-finals. They will be looking to do a deal with his club Real Sociedad before the next season starts.

The third player on their list is Dani Olmo, who was the shining light for Spain as they progressed through the tournament. Three goals in the knockout stages from Olmo were all necessary for the Spaniards to reach the final, where they beat England 2-1. Barcelona will hope they can sign the RB Leipzig playmaker this summer.

Ronaldo Koeman discusses the player profile Barcelona should sign

Barcelona may be looking at a number of signings, but former coach Ronald Koeman has spoken about the type of player they need to sign. This comes after the Blaugrana were second-best in every area against Real Madrid last season, as they failed to win a trophy.

Koeman has pushed for the Blaugrana to find a player like Kylian Mbappe, who Los Blancos just signed on a free transfer. He said to SPORT (via Barca Universal):

"I think Madrid are superior to Barca in many ways. The team they have is one for the future and I know that Barca has very good young players, Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Gavi. Great players but Barca needs people like Mbappe, who make a difference in every way."

It is unlikely that Barcelona will be particularly able to sign a player of Kylian Mbappe's level, following their ongoing financial problems.
