Barcelona keen to counter Kylian Mbappe joining Real Madrid by signing Premier League star - Reports

Barcelona might be in the market to search for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona might be in the market to search for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Although Robert Lewandowski continues to showcase his scoring prowess for Barcelona, they are aware that the talismanic striker is 36 and will be out of contract in 2026. The Pole has netted four goals in six matches across competitions this season.

As his long-term future becomes uncertain, the Catalan club are already preparing for life after Lewandowski. They are seeking a high-profile replacement who can provide a steady stream of goals in the years ahead.

As the Blaugrana look to bolster their attack, attention has turned to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, according to Sport 45. The Norwegian has emerged as one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.

The 24-year-old, widely regarded as the best striker in the world, is under contract with City until 2027. His salary - exceeding £20 million - positions him as one of the highest earners in the Premier League. Although a transfer seems unlikely at the moment, potential financial sanctions against City could open the door for Barcelona to make a play for Haaland.

However, given the club’s financial limitations, Barcelona are also keeping tabs on two other promising options. Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres, currently in stellar form for Sporting Lisbon, has drawn significant interest from several Premier League clubs and Paris Saint-Germain.

Another candidate on Barca’s radar is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško. The 21-year-old Slovenian is highly regarded for his potential, and his release clause—around €65 million—makes him a more affordable option.

As Real Madrid continue to terrorize Europe after securing Kylian Mbappe, Barcelona’s pursuit of a top-class striker has gained urgency.

Barcelona eye Jerdy Schouten and Mason Greenwood as January reinforcements - Reports

Barcelona are reportedly considering two key signings in the January transfer window - Jerdy Schouten from PSV Eindhoven and Mason Greenwood from Marseille, according to Fichajes (via Barca Universal). Both players, while distinct in their roles, could help address critical needs for Hansi Flick's squad.

Schouten, a versatile defensive midfielder, has garnered interest due to his ability to play multiple positions, including as a center-back. His adaptability makes him an attractive option for La Blaugrana, who are looking to strengthen their midfield following the season-long injury of Marc Bernal. However, Schouten’s contract with PSV runs until 2028, which could complicate negotiations.

On the attacking front, 22-year-old Greenwood has been in excellent form in Ligue 1, scoring five goals in four matches for Marseille. Despite Barca’s prior contact with his agents, his transfer is complicated by clauses from Manchester United and interest from Real Madrid.
