Arsenal have reportedly had initial talks with Barcelona target Mikel Merino for a potential summer transfer. The midfielder is likely to leave Real Sociedad this summer, with his contract expiring next summer.

Merino made seven appearances, starting just once, for Spain in their UEFA Euro 2024 triumph. He did score the winner in extra time in their 2-1 win over Germany in the quarter-finals. His impressive form with La Roja and at club level has seen him being linked with multiple clubs.

As per Mirror, Real Sociedad have been unable to make him sign a new deal and hence, are open to selling him for £25 million this summer. Arsenal and Barcelona are highly interested in signing him. Journalist Dean Jones recently reported that the Gunners have also opened talks for Merino (via TBR Football):

“While we’re on Arsenal, I would look out for Mikel Merino as well. That is true. They have looked at a lot of midfielders recently, Zubimendi is one, Onana, Douglas Luiz.
“There is something in Merino. I don’t know how far it has gone yet, I think it will become clear quite soon, but something has happened, at least an initial discussion on that one."

Merino has made 242 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 30 assists, for Real Sociedad since joining them from Newcastle United in 2018.

Arsenal could sign Barcelona star with whom they were linked with in 2022: Reports

Barcelona are reportedly open to selling Raphinha this summer as they look to make some changes in their attack. Arsenal, who were linked with him in 2022, could look to bring him back to the Premier League.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for Nico Williams. Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal has established himself as the first-choice right winger after coming through their academy. This could see Raphinha's playing time decrease significantly next season. As per Caught Offside, the Brazilian is also looking for a return to the Premier League.

Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing him this summer, as they were in 2022 when he was at Leeds United. The Gunners are looking to strengthen their attack and reduce the load on Bukayo Saka.

Raphinha made 37 appearances across competitions for Barcelona last season, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists. He registered 17 goals and 12 assists in 65 Premier League games during his time with Leeds. His contract with Barca expires in 2027 and as per Transfermarkt, his market value is €50 million.
