Another club 'forcefully enters' fray for Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood: Reports

Olympique de Marseille have pushed themselves into the fray for Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood's signing, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. The 22-year-old winger's impressive loan at Getafe has ended, where he played 36 games across competitions, scoring ten goals and providing six assists.

This has seen multiple clubs register interest in the Englishman, and Marseille have now joined the race. Previously, Lazio were considered the favorites for his signature, with reports claiming they were prepared to offer approximately €20 million.

However, Marseille are reportedly prepared to offer more and are confident of completing the deal. Due to Greenwood's status as an academy graduate, selling him will give pure profit to United. This will help with their finances as they look to make new signings in the transfer market this summer.

There is little to no chance of Greenwood returning to Manchester United, who sent him out on a loan following a public backlash. The English winger was accused of sexual assault, but the case was dropped because of the withdrawal of key witnesses.

Lazio president speaks about signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United

While Marseille may entered the fray for Mason Greenwood's services, Lazio are not out of it just yet. They have made an offer within the €20 million range, with Manchester United said to be wanting €35 million.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito spoke about making a move for the 22-year-old winger, telling Tutto Mercato (via Inside Futbol):

“I have always said that I don’t sell dreams but solid realities. I try to translate dreams into concrete facts.”

This could mean that they will look elsewhere if they are unable to agree on an acceptable fee with their counterparts at Old Trafford. In the meantime, though, Lazio will be hoping they can sign the promising youngster, who has rejuvenated his footballing career in Spain.
