Paris, Dec 23 (IANS) Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani has earned the second lowest score by French sports daily L'Equipe, with only Evian defender Cedric Mongongu below him, making the Uruguayan the "worst striker" in Ligue 1.

The French newspaper posts player ratings every week for every game in Ligue 1 and they keep an average score throughout the season, reports Xinhua.

For last weekend’s 19th round games, Cavani scored just 4.25 points as PSG were held to a 0-0 draw by Montpelier at home on Saturday.

Alexandre Lacazette leads the way in France with 17 goals in 19 games, his average score for the season so far is 6.47. Trailing him is teammate Nabil Fekir on 6.21 and Marseille's Dimitri Payet on 6.12.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel of Saint-Etienne, Monaco's Dimitar Berbatov and Modibo Maiga of Metz loaned from West Ham United have all scored fewer goals than Cavani, but every one of them ranks higher.

L'Equipe rarely gives a high score, as the only seven to have been given out in the history of their rankings was back in 1988.

There were reports recently that Manchester United were looking to make a 50 million pound bid for Cavani in January. The 27-year-old Uruguayan is one goal behind strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic in PSG's scoring charts, netting the most for the French champions in the UEFA Champions League and notching one in the Coupe de la Ligue.
