Manchester United legend Roy Keane has slammed Christian Eriksen for the latter's comments after a Europa League match last month. The Red Devils have had a poor start to the season and played out a 1-1 draw in their first match in Europe this campaign against Twente on September 25.
Eriksen started the tie and managed to score his team's only goal of the evening. Speaking after the fixture, the former Tottenham Hotspur star said (via Metro):
"It's disappointing. We wanted more in the end but it wasn't good enough. They looked like they wanted it more than us and that can't be right. That was said in the dressing room."
Claiming that the attitude of players isn't right and pointing out Eriksen's comments in particular, Keane told The Overlap:
"I even go back to the FC Twente game and when the players came out after the match, it was Eriksen, again a really poor game, oh my goodness, and when players come out (and say), 'I think they might have wanted it more than us', I kind of gave up at that stage."
He added:
"So he's coming out after the game, I'm looking at him, even if you feel that, and that has happened where you thought they wanted it more than you, you don't bloody say it, you fool, do you?"
All in all, it has been an underwhelming start to the season in the Premier League as well for the Red Devils. They've managed just eight points in their first seven league matches so far and are sitting in 14th place.
Gareth Southgate responds to Manchester United links as Erik ten Hag comes under pressure
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is under serious pressure given his team's performances this season so far. The Dutchman's future has come under question and reports suggest that Gareth Southgate could be the next in line.
The former England manager stepped away from his duties in international football only this summer after Euro 2024. Claiming that he won't be coaching next year, Southgate said at the ECA Europe general assembly (via Metro):
"I won't coach in the next year for sure, I'm certain of that. I need to give myself time to make good decisions."
Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has also been linked with the Manchester United job. He's been without a coaching job since leaving Bayern Munich after the 2023/24 campaign.
