Wrexham complete big transfer coup as 29-year-old defender leaves Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth to drop down division and join Ryan Reynolds’ club

Ryan Reynolds' club Wrexham have completed a massive transfer coup with the signing of Plymouth Argyle defender Dan Scarr. The strong 29-year-old defender has made the decision to drop divisions, leaving Wayne Rooney's club for the Red Dragons' project.

Scarr was a big part of Plymouth's campaign in the Championship last season. He helped them stay in the second tier of English football, playing 28 games, as they finished in 21st place with 51 points.

Rather than stay in the Championship, though, the towering defender has decided to go down a tier into League One, where he will play for Wrexham. Scarr signed a three-year deal with Ryan Reynolds' club. He has spoken about the move, revealing how the Red Dragons' popularity played a role in his conversation with the club's media:

“It’s probably one of the most talked about Clubs outside of the Premier League. It’s a really exciting project that I’m looking forward to getting stuck into.
"It’s a unique club for this day and age, but the main thing that drew me in was that I want to get another promotion and be a part of history. I’ve had good experiences that put me in good stead to go and help the team and help the players around me."

Dan Scarr was notably a part of the Plymouth side that gained promotion into the Championship, as he revealed after he signed for the Red Dragons:

"I got promoted out of League One with Plymouth, and those sorts of experiences I hope will help me have a good season here too."

Dan Scarr will be hoping to be part of a successful project, which Ryan Reynolds has taken into the limelight with his popularity.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney planning third USA tour for Wrexham

Wrexham have notably gone on tour twice in as many years, with the Red Dragons recently playing a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Levi's Stadium in California. This looks set to continue, with club director Shaun Harvey revealing the plans of co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The director told The Athletic that their tours had yielded impressive results, adding that it had opened everyone’s eyes to the potential of the club in North America. He went on to reveal that their success so far would likely lead to another tour (via GOAL):

“The rationale is we have seen the success of taking the team away during pre-season. Not just from a commercial side but also a real practical perspective. I can’t see those circumstances not continuing.”

Wrexham are set to play in League One and Ryan Reynolds will be hoping that a push for promotion might be on the cards this season.
