Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has mentioned that his club will take some time to reach the level of Liverpool, as per Tribal Football. The two clubs face off against each other in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday, October 20.
Maresca, who was appointed as Chelsea's head coach earlier this year, has brought concrete plans with him to Stamford Bridge. The Italian manager is keen on working hard and taking the Blues back to the stature it deserves.
Ahead of their clash against Liverpool, Maresca mentioned that it was unwise to think that Chelsea are at the same level as their opponents. However, the 44-year-old mentioned that they are working hard every day to bridge the gap.
“I don’t see, in this moment, Chelsea as close to these kinds of clubs for many, many reasons. For sure we work every day to be closer to that club. Knowing that requires work together, day by day, with time, to get close," Maresca said.
“The only way to try to be close is to be focused on the things we need to improve. To think where we can be in four games, it is difficult. The only thing I can say is we will try to do our best on Sunday to play a good game and then to get the points,” he added.
“Probably in the last five, six, seven, eight years, Liverpool were more contenders with City, they were always very, very close for the Premier League and even Champions League. But hopefully, we can be again there in both, competing for titles,” Maresca elaborated.
Chelsea are just four points away from the top of the EPL table
Chelsea are ranked in the fourth position of the league table currently. They have 14 points under their belt, and are just four points away from leaders Liverpool. If the Blues upset their hosts on Sunday, they will be able to rise in the table.
Maresca knows that his club will have a tough ask on their hands on Sunday, as Liverpool are nigh on unbeatable at home. However, they will take inspiration from Nottingham Forest, who did the unthinkable with a 1-0 win over the Reds earlier this season.
