David Beckham recently revealed a strict rule he has put in place for Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates. The former Manchester United star banned the players from posting their outfits on social media before a match.

The Inter Miami co-owner made this revelation during an appearance on ex-teammate Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, Rio Ferdinand Presents. While discussing Barcelona's rule of stopping players from posting their outfits before a game, Beckham disclosed that he implemented a similar rule at Inter Miami.

“Yeah, funnily enough, our team started doing it a couple of times and I stopped that,” Beckham said.

When Ferdinand quizzed Beckham on why a fashion icon like himself laid down the rule, Beckham added that the team’s bad performance at the time forced him to do so.

“Yeah, but we weren’t winning games at the point,” he replied.

He added that the Inter Miami players are free to showcase their outfits on social media, but not when the team is not winning matches.

“Well, they can still do it. I just don’t wanna see it on social media if we’re actually losing games," he said.

David Beckham has invested heavily in Inter Miami, bringing in top stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jodi Alba, and Sergio Busquets to the MLS. These investments paid off as the Herons recently emerged as the best team in the MLS season by winning the Supporters’ Shield.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami eye unprecedented MLS record

Following the international break, Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates will turn their attention to the final league game of the season. The Florida-based club will play New England Revolution on Saturday, October 19.

Inter Miami clinched the Supporters’ Shield with a 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew on October 3. Now, they will look to set a new record for most points in a single MLS season. The Herons currently have 71 points from 33 matches. A victory on Saturday will see them beat the previous record of 73 points set by New England in 2021.

Lionel Messi has played a huge role in the club’s success this season. Despite missing out on a good number of games due to injury, he has contributed 17 goals and 10 assists in 18 games.
