"We've been close the last two years" – Arsenal star Bukayo Saka rates the Gunners' Premier League title chances in bold claim

Arsenal superstar Bukayo Saka has asserted that his team will be able to end their 20-year-long Premier League title drought this season.

The Gunners, who are still unbeaten in the Premier League this season, achieved back-to-back second place finishes in the past two campaigns. They ended on 89 points, two points behind Manchester City, last term and on 84 points, five behind City, in the 2022-23 season.

Speaking after Arsenal's 2-0 UEFA Champions League home win over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Saka opined on his team's title chances. He told CBS Sports (h/t X/@FabrizioRomano):

"I don't want to put too much pressure on us... but I do think this is the year. We've been close the last two years, we're getting closer. I hope this will be the year [we will lift the league title]."

The Gunners, who will next host Southampton this Saturday (October 5), are third in the 2024-25 Premier League table. They are on 14 points from six matches, just one point behind league leaders Liverpool.

Saka, on the other hand, will be keen to replicate past campaign's form in the next seven months. The 23-year-old has scored two goals and registered five assists in nine games across competitions this season.

Kai Havertz rates Arsenal's outing after win

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Arsenal striker Kai Havertz shared his thoughts on his team's Champions League performance at home against Ligue 1 giants PSG. The German opined (h/t football.london):

"We played very well, especially in the first-half. I think second-half, sometimes we were a bit too passive, but still, it was a good game, a great result for us and a good three points."

Havertz, who left Chelsea in a potential £65 million move, concluded:

"It feels great to play here. I love this stadium and the fans and I am so thankful to play here and help the team. Coming here was a big step for me. Back in the day, I wasn't always a player who loved the duels but now I love it."

So far this season, the 25-year-old forward has found the back of the net five times in nine matches across all competitions for the Gunners.

The Bayer Leverkusen youth product struggled to live up to his potential during his three-year stint at Chelsea. He scored and assisted 44 times in 139 overall games for them, while he has already registered 27 goal involvements in 60 total matches for his current club.
