Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has aimed a dig at West Ham following their 3-0 home loss to the Blues at the London Stadium on Saturday (September 21) in the Premier League.
The statistics showed that possession was fairly equal for both sides, with West Ham holding onto the ball more (53%) compared to Chelsea (47%). The Hammers also had more passes, making 442 in total (89% accuracy), compared to the Blues, who made 390 passes (86% accuracy).
West Ham also had more shots at goal (15) and on target (7), with the Blues taking just 12 shots, with five on target. However, the visitors stood out when it came to being clinical in front of goal, while West Ham's lackluster defence stumbled time and again.
With their five shots on target, Chelsea scored three goals, with Nicolas Jackson making a mark with a brace inside 18 minutes. The striker turned provider for Cole Palmer, releasing the attacking midfielder with a perfect pass that saw him score their third goal in the 47th minute.
The win over their London rivals was pleasing for Sutton, who took a dig at the Hammers with a tweet:
"The new West Ham way..."
They have begun life this season under Julen Lopetegui, who is intent on playing an attacking brand of football. However, that hasn't worked out too well, with the Hammers losing thrice in their last five matches across competitions.
Enzo Maresca full of praise for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson in West Ham win
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca had reason to be pleased with Nicolas Jackson in the win at West Ham. The striker has racked up four goals and two assists in five Premier League games this season.
When asked about his two goals against the Hammers, Maresca told the press (via football.london):
"Fantastic. In terms of numbers, goals and assists since I arrived, he is doing well. Off the ball, he is working hard. If a player misses one or two chances, it doesn't mean he is not playing well. It can happen. All players miss chances.
"What is important is the complete performance. Against Bournemouth, it was a good performance and then in the last 10 minutes we changed something; Christo [Nkunku] was inside and was top. This is what we expect from all of them."
The Blues are fourth in the standings after five games, going unbeaten in four games - winning three - since losing 2-0 at home to Manchester City on the opening day.
