New Liverpool boss Arne Slot looks on.

Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva reckons the Reds have made a good choice to appoint Arne Slot as their new manager. The Dutchman succeeds the legendary Jurgen Klopp, who left at the end of last season.

Slot arrives at Anfield after three successful seasons at Feyenoord, winning the Eredivisie title and the KNVP Cup and leading them to the UEFA Europa Conference League final.

The Reds saw enough managerial pedigree in Slot to appoint him as their next head coach. Leiva has no reservations about the choice, telling GOAL:

"It's always challenging when you replace a manager like Jurgen, especially after so many years. But I think the club picked someone that they really think can have an impact for many years. I don't think they brought Arne in just for this season. Last year was, for me, a very good surprise.
"We could see a lot of young players coming through. So this season, and I think we will have these options that maybe last year we didn't think we would have, it will be a different style of play for sure. But let's wait and see how different it will be, especially with other players coming back as well."

The Reds kicked off the Arne Slot era with a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End in a closed-doors friendly in July before beating Real Betis in Pittsburgh last week.

Arne Slot's Liverpool continue their pre-season tour of the US when they lock horns with Premier League rivals Arsenal on Thursday (August 1) at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Three days later, they lock horns with another domestic rival, Manchester United, at Brice Stadium in South Carolina before winding up their pre-season with a home clash with Sevilla on August 11.

The Reds open their new Premier League campaign at newly promoted Ipswich Town six days later. They finished third in the league last season, while Ipswich finished runner-up in the Championship, behind Leicester City.
