"That's what you get in football if you take things for granted" - Gary Neville calls out 'complacency' in Liverpool star during 2-1 win over Wolves

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has called out Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate after his poor decision-making led to Wolverhampton Wanderers scoring. This occurred during the Reds' 2-1 win in their Premier League clash at the Molineux on Saturday, September 28.

Liverpool weren't at their best and struggled to break down Wolves during large parts of the game. Konate's towering header (45+2') gave them the lead going into half-time, following an accurate cross by Diogo Jota.

However, the France international's lapse in concentration in the 56th minute enabled the hosts to level the scores. He chose not to clear the ball inside his own box, instead opting to wait for Alisson Becker to come to collect the ball. Unfortunately for him, the latter never did, resulting in Konate being dispossessed and Rayan Ait-Nouri scoring.

Neville wasn't impressed by this as he said (via Rousing the Kop):

"Look at Konate, what is he doing?! Then Alisson gets caught out of his goal. It’s scrappy. That’s what you get in football if you take things for granted. It’s just complacency.”

Mohamed Salah's 61st-minute penalty spared Konate's blushes as Liverpool held firm afterwards to seal all three points. They are currently at the top of the league standings with 15 points from six games, one point above second-placed Manchester City.

"He is just very comfortable on the ball" - Arne Slot admits he has been left 'surprised' by Liverpool star this season

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has admitted he has been left pleasantly surprised by Ryan Gravenberch's emergence as a No. 6 for the Reds this season. The Dutchman was named the Player of the Match by Gary Neville after he starred in their 2-1 win against Wolves.

Despite being fielded as a No. 8 by Jurgen Klopp last season, Gravenberch has excelled in a double pivot alongside Alexis Mac Allister under Slot. The 22-year-old has made seven appearances across all competitions, replacing Wataru Endo in the starting XI.

Following the Wolves game, Slot said (via Rousing the Kop):

“He is just very comfortable on the ball. And with him and Mac Allister, that helps the team if you want to have a possession-based style of play, if you want to have the ball and kept it as long as you can, then it always helps if you have two players that are so comfortable on the ball in the holding midfielder position."

He added:

“And the two of them can run as well. So I think if you only look at the things Ryan does with the ball, we don’t do enough justice to his game. He is doing a really good job without the ball as well. To be completely honest, that surprised me even a bit because I know him from the Dutch league.”

Liverpool next face Bologna in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday, October 2.
