"That's a fact" – Former Liverpool defender offers advice to Trent Alexander-Arnold amid Real Madrid rumors

Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently in the final year of his Liverpool contract.

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has claimed that Reds vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold should join Real Madrid if the right-back is aiming to win trophies at club level.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has reportedly been linked with a move to the La Liga giants since the start of this summer. He is in the final year of his deal and could leave the Reds as a free agent ahead of the next term.

During a recent chat with betting website Betfred, Johnson was asked if Alexander-Arnold should switch allegiances in search of more trophies. He responded:

"If you go to Real Madrid, you're guaranteed trophies. That's a fact. Liverpool aren't guaranteed trophies, but they're very capable of winning them. For Trent, it's never going to be about money at that level because everybody's paid very well, so if it's trophies that he wants, then Real Madrid will guarantee that, but Liverpool fans would love to see him stay and fight for trophies at Anfield."

Asked whether the defender could anger Liverpool fans, he replied:

"I think it'll be absolutely fine. Trent's a local lad, he's been with the club for 20 years and he's been professional, never fallen out with the club and has won everything with them. The reality is, if the club has offered him a deal that isn't worth his while, then that's their fault and I believe the fans will understand that. All good things come to an end and I’m sure he'll leave on good terms."

Should Alexander-Arnold join Los Blancos next year, he could prove to be a great signing for them. He would potentially replace Dani Carvajal, who will turn 33 next January, as the club's first-choice right-back.

At his boyhood club, Alexander-Arnold has won eight silverwares so far. The right-back has found the back of the net 19 times and laid out 83 assists in 316 matches across all competitions for the Anfield side.

Liverpool keen to rope in Real Madrid ace

According to journalist Eduardo Inda (h/t Fichajes.com), Liverpool have earmarked Real Madrid forward Rodrygo as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Reds could launch a move for the Brazilian, who is thought to have grown unhappy with his squad role.

Rodrygo, 23, has a contract until June 2028 at Los Blancos. He could be valued at over £100 million by his team due to his age and contract.

Overall, the Santos academy graduate has netted 57 goals and laid out 43 assists in 225 appearances across competitions for Real Madrid.
