Harry Kane has lauded Cristiano Ronaldo, stating that he draws inspiration from the Portuguese icon. The Three Lions' skipper said Ronaldo's longevity and goal-scoring prowess motivate him to keep playing for as long as possible.

Ronaldo reached a new milestone by scoring his 900th career goal for club and country in Portugal's UEFA Nations League clash against Croatia on September 5. Three days later, the Al-Nassr ace extended this record to 901 goals when he came off the bench to net the winner against Scotland.

At 39, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is still one of the most prolific forwards in football and this attribute is what Kane admires. The Bayern Munich striker spoke of his admiration for Ronaldo ahead of England's UEFA Nations Cup tie with Finland at Wembley on September 10.

Kane will become the 10th Englishman to reach the 100-game milestone for his country when he leads the side against Finland. Speaking ahead of this personal milestone, the 31-year-old claimed that he has no plans of slowing down. He said (via Daily Mail):

"I feel in really good shape both physically and mentally at a peak in my career. When you watch other players, like Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 901st goal yesterday and seeing him compete at 39-years-old, that inspires me to play for as long as possible."

Kane added:

"I love this game, I love representing England more than anything and I don't want it to end anytime soon. For me now it's about continuing to improve and be consistent both in an England shirt and at club level and that's what I'll always do."

Like Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane is his nation's all-time top goalscorer. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has netted 66 times in 99 appearances for the Three Lions and will look to add to his tally when they face Finland.

Harry Kane will hope to match Cristiano Ronaldo's achievement on the international stage

While it might be difficult for Harry Kane to reach Cristiano Ronaldo's 900 career goals mark, the Englishman could still match the Al-Nassr forward's achievement of winning a major trophy with his national team.

Ronaldo won the European Championships with Portugal in 2016 and the UEFA Nations League in 2019. Meanwhile, Kane is yet to lead the Three Lions to glory. He came close to winning the Euros in 2021 and most recently in 2024, but England finished as runner-ups on both occasions, losing the finals to Italy and Spain, respectively.

It is also worth noting that the England captain is yet to win a major honour at club level.
