ATP World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz apparently foresees a Spanish people on Sunday (July 14) as Spain take on England in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin. On the same day, Alcaraz will play the Wimbledon final as he looks to defend his title.
Spain are into their first European Championship final in 12 years after beating France 2-1 in the semis earlier this week in Munich. "Sunday will be a good day for Spanish people. I didn't say Spain are going to win! I'm just saying it's going to be a really fun day! It's going to be a really difficult match.”
It could be double delight for Spanish people on Sunday if Alcaraz wins his second Wimbledon title on the day La Roja potentially clinch a record fourth European Championship.
"We are really close" - Spain striker Dani Olmo ahead of Euro 2024 final with England
Spain striker Dani Olmo reckons his team are on the cusp of glory after La Roja came from behind to down France in the first Euro 2024 final earlier this week in Munich.
Randal Kolo Muani headed in captain Kylian Mbappe's pin-point cross in the ninth minute to give Les Bleus a surprise lead at the Allianz Arena. However, Lamine Yamal's fabulous 21st-minute equaliser levelled proceedings before Olmo's deflected strike four minutes later won the game for La Roja.
Ahead of the big game, Olmo said (as per UEFA.com) that his team deserve to be in the title match and would be unfazed about whoever would turn up against them:
"Now we are really close. One step away. We have an incredible team – we work so hard to achieve all this. Above all, we deserve to be in this final. What a great match we produced. I don't care if it's England or the Netherlands we face."
England will become the 11th different European Championship winner if they beat Spain on Sunday.
