Manchester United fans were pleased with Casemiro's performance in the FA Community Shield against Manchester City, despite losing on penalties, on Saturday, August 10. The shootout saw Jonny Evans and Jadon Sancho miss their efforts, which upset the fans, but they had Casemiro's performance to smile about.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has struggled with fitness and form in recent months, leading to calls from quarters of the fanbase for his sale. It also has not helped that there have been regular rumors about strong interest from Saudi Arabia.

However, the 32-year-old Manchester United midfielder shut critics up with his performance for the Red Devils on Saturday. He spent the entire time on the pitch, creating two very important chances that his teammates were unable to finish off.

Casemiro laid off impressive passes, threading through Manchester City's defense to find Amad Diallo and Marcus Rashford at different points of the game. While it didn't yield fruit, his presence in the midfield and quality of passing was remarkable. He also did not relent in his tackling, making six during the game, while winning 10 duels.

His overall performance through the 90 minutes was impressive to Manchester United fans, so much so that they took to social media to hail him:

"Casemiro is my man of the match, I hope he can keep up that performance for the rest of the season," one fan shared.
"Are you watching this Casemiro performance he’s been superb but agenda merchants won’t say sh*t," another fan added.
"If Casemiro can play like this for a season, then we may not need another defensive midfielder," another fan's hopes were raised.
"Casemiro still does things no one else at United can do," another claimed.
"Casemiro back to his best, proving me wrong fair play, I f**king hope he keeps this up," another pushed the Brazilian.
"If this is the Casemiro we're getting for the sesson, I can vibe with it," a fan added.
"- he has a way of fooling us I’m crying 😭" another fan warned.

Manchester United 1-1 Manchester City: Match report

Manchester City have won the FA Community Shield following a grueling penalty shootout that saw them miss first. However, in the game proper, they held much of the possession for vast periods (56%). They were stunned when the Red Devils got past their defenses with a late goal.

Both sides had been prodding in search of options and answers. It took impressive movement from Alejandro Garnacho to find the opener in the 82nd minute for Manchester United.

However, the Cityzens didn't back down. Just seven minutes later, they equalized through substitute Bernardo Silva, whose header was enough to take it to penalties. Manuel Akanji scored the winning penalty after Jonny Evans missed for United after the score was 4-4 after the five 10 penalties.
