"Some get jealous and say, 'Your dad, your dad'" – Liverpool superstar says teammates call him Jurgen Klopp's son due to special relationship

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has claimed that his teammates call him ex-Reds manager Jurgen Klopp's son due to his close relationship with the German.

Mac Allister, 25, relished a great debut campaign under Klopp in the 2023-24 term. He helped the Reds finish third in the Premier League table, operating either as a defensive midfielder or a number eight.

During a recent interaction with Argentine outlet Clank!, Mac Allister opened up on how Klopp congratulated him for Argentina's Copa America 2024 triumph. He said (h/t X/@AlbicelesteTalk):

"Jurgen Klopp messaged me after the Copa America final, he congratulated me. I admire him; I have a great relationship with him. We talked a lot throughout the year. I'm grateful because he gave me the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world. He opened the doors for me and defended and helped me from the very first minute."

The former Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors midfielder continued:

"I have an incredible relationship with him; he has always treated me with great affection and respect. I even have to endure my teammates calling me his son. I dealt with it all year. You know how it is, some get jealous and say, 'Your dad, your dad.'"

Since leaving Brighton & Hove Albion for £35 million last summer, Mac Allister has established himself as a first-team starter for Liverpool. He has started 40 of his 46 appearances across competitions for his club, recording seven goals and as many assists along the way.

Liverpool defender opines on his price tag

Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg has shared his thoughts on the £20 million price tag slapped by his club in the ongoing summer transfer window. He said (h/t OneFootball):

"I know in today's market [high prices] will happen. For the price they want for me... Liverpool may think it is right as I had a good season. If they want £20 million, that is a lot more. Hopefully we can find a way. Maybe I stay, maybe I go. The first reaction from me is that it was quite high! But it is also a compliment. For me, it's about playing time. If I get it here, there is no better place to be."

Last season, Van den Berg helped Mainz 05 avoid relegation from the Bundesliga as he registered three goals in 35 appearances for them.

So far, the 22-year-old has featured in just four games for Liverpool.
