“Sad to see him never get a real chance”, “Will be missed” - Liverpool fans react as 21-year-old star completes move away from club

Liverpool have announced a player departure

Portuguese midfielder Fabio Carvalho has completed a transfer from Liverpool to fellow Premier League club Brentford for a reported fee of £27.5 million, including add-ons. Although the Reds faithful were disappointed to see Carvalho leave, they were quick to extend their best wishes for his future on social media.

Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2022 for a reported fee of £5 million, but struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. After just one year at the club, the 21-year-old was loaned to RB Leipzig at the start of the 2023-24 season. Struggling for game time there, he returned to England and played for Hull City in the Championship during the second half of the campaign.

It was at Hull where Carvalho showed his potential, scoring nine goals in 20 appearances, while also winning the EFL Young Player of the Month award twice. His impressive performances earned him a place in Arne Slot’s pre-season tour squad, where he scored twice in three games.

Despite Liverpool selling the midfielder for a substantial profit, the move has not pleased the fans, who feel Carvalho’s potential was underutilized at the club.

One fan remarked on the unfortunate nature of his departure, expressing that Carvalho never got an opportunity to prove his worth at Liverpool.

Here are a few more reactions:

"Unfortunate to see such a talent leave. But it was best for him," a fan remarked.
"Good luck, Fabio, the streets will never forget that winner vs Newcastle," a Liverpool supporter recalled Carvalho’s late winner against Newcastle United during his debut season in August 2022.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot expresses confidence in the club’s transfer strategy

Liverpool remain the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this season. The likes of Thiago and Joel Matip have departed, while several young players have also left, either permanently or on loan.

The Reds were previously linked with a move for Anthony Gordon, but they have now turned their attention to Real Sociedad’s defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Recent reports suggest a £51 million release clause for the Spaniard, and it will be interesting to see how the club proceeds with this potential acquisition.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk has voiced concerns about the lack of new signings, but head coach Arne Slot assured that the club is working behind the scenes to finalize some moves.

“I’m positive. I’m confident. I think that we should make some signings based on how long the season will go. I think they’re working behind the scenes. I’m fully convinced and trust in the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad in order to compete in every competition that we are in. I have to trust and we’ll see what happens," Slot said (via Mirror).

Liverpool had a solid pre-season, remaining undefeated in their five games. They will now turn their attention to the Premier League, where they are set to play Ipswich Town away in their opening match on August 17, before returning to Anfield to face Brentford.
