Real Madrid are putting together final preparations ahead of their home La Liga game against Villarreal on Saturday, October 5. Carlo Ancelotti's team arrive at the tie on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lille in midweek in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos have begun the process of securing the services of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Elsewhere, Ferland Mendy is no longer wanted at the Santiago Bernabeu.

On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from October 4, 2024.

Real Madrid have initiated contact to secure the services of Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to Relevo. The English right-back has entered the final year of his contract with Liverpool and is yet to sign a new deal.

Los Blancos are keeping a close eye on his situation as they look for Dani Carvajal's successor. The Spanish right-back's contract at the Santiago Bernabeu also expires at the end of this season, and he hasn't signed an extension yet.

The La Liga giants tend to offer one-year deals to players over 30. Carvajal is 32, but has shown no signs of slowing down and is likely to be offered a a new contract.

However, Real Madrid believe Alexander-Arnold can eventually replace him at the Santiago Bernabeu. They have been in touch with the player's camp on multiple occasions to facilitate a Bosman move next summer.

The report also adds that the 25-year-old has rejected Liverpool's latest contract renewal offer. The right-back could be tempted to finally end his Anfield stay and move to Spain, although such a decision will not be taken on a whim.

However, joining Los Blancos will almost guarantee him silverware and more success in his already distinguished career. It would also help Alexander-Arnold team up with his close friend Jude Bellingham. But the Merseyside giants are unlikely to let him go without a fight.

Carlo Ancelotti has lost his patience with Ferland Mendy and wants him gone, according to Defensa Central. The French left-back has entered the final year of his deal with Real Madrid, but the Italian manager has confirmed that the player has signed a new deal.

Recent reports have suggested that Los Blancos have already identified Alphonso Davies as his replacement. It was previously mentioned that Ancelotti wanted Mendy to stay and had pushed the club to tie him down to a new deal.

However, it now appears that the Italian manager has had a change of heart, especially after the poor outing against Lille. Ancelotti has approved the La Liga champions' pursuit of Davies and believes that the Canadian can be an upgrade on Mendy.

Meanwhile, Davies' contract with Bayern Munich expires next summer and he is likely to be available on a Bosman move at the end of this season.

Acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has outlined how Real Madrid lost out on Leny Yoro this summer. Los Blancos had identified the 18-year-old as a priority target this summer, following Nacho Fernandez's departure.

However, the La Liga giants refused to match Lille's asking price for the Frenchman, given that he was in the final year of his contract. Manchester United took advantage of the standoff and prised the player away.

In his column for Caught Offside, Romano claimed that Yoro was convinced by the Red Devils' overall project.

“It did seem that Leny Yoro would be signing for Real Madrid at one stage, but, for sure, Man United presented a long term project with him as a regular starter," wrote Romano.
“Important player status immediately, complete trust for the long term and of course an important salary were also factors in how Man United signed Leny Yoro. These reasons were the key for Yoro to decide to accept Manchester United’s offer despite Real Madrid’s strong interest,” he added.

Recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid now have their eyes on Palmeiras youngster Vitor Reis.
