Real Madrid have set their sights on Nico Williams, according to journalist Paco Gonzalez. The Spanish forward was outstanding for Athletic Bilbao last season and also has admirers at Barcelona.

Williams rose through the ranks at San Mames and broke into the first team in 2021. He registered eight goals and 19 assists from 37 games across competitions for Bilbao last season, helping them win the Copa del Rey.

The 22-year-old also stole the show at Euro 2024, helping La Roja go all the way. Real Madrid are pleased with his efforts and are considering a move for the player.

Los Blancos always have an eye out for the best talents in the land and have an enviable ensemble at their disposal. The reigning LaLiga champions are looking for further improvements to the squad and have identified Williams as an option.

However, prising him away from Athletic Bilbao won't be easy. The player was heavily courted by Barcelona this summer, but he ended up staying at the San Mames.

Real Madrid are likely to face competition from the Catalans in the race for the Spanish forward next summer. Meanwhile, Los Blancos may also have to offload one of Vinicius Junior or Rodrygo Goes to make space in their squad for the youngster.

The former is the leading contender for Ballon d'Or 2024 and is a key part of plans for the LaLiga giants. Rodrygo is also highly rated at Real Madrid, who are unlikely to let him go. As such, there remains questions regarding a move for Williams in 2025.

Will Real Madrid invest in a right-back in January?

Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of 2025. The English right-back is in the final months of his contract with Liverpool and is yet to commit his future at Anfield.

Los Blancos are long-term admirers of the 26-year-old and are already ploting a Bosman move for the player next summer. However, the recent ACL injury to Dani Carvajal could alter their plans.

The legendary Spaniard isn't expected to play again this season, leaving the club in a tight spot. The LaLiga champions could be tempted to move for Alexander-Arnold in the turn of the year to address the situation.

Liverpool remain eager to keep hold of their prized asset. However, if he continues to stall a new deal, the Reds could be forced to cash in on him in the winter to prevent losing him for free.
