PSG in direct talks with Manchester United to sign star player - Reports

Luis Enrique and then Hag

After signing Joao Neves from Benfica, PSG have resumed their efforts in the transfer market and are reportedly in direct talks to secure the services of Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho.

Sancho has been on the fringes of United’s squad since his fallout with Erik ten Hag and has not played competitive football for the club in over a year. He was loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January, where he impressed, and was consequently a part of Red Devils’ squad during their pre-season tour in the United States.

According to the Tranfers Podcast, PSG and Manchester United have been discussing Sancho while negotiating a potential deal for Manuel Ugarte. PSG rejected United’s €50 million offer for Ugarte, holding out for €60 million, which United are unwilling to meet.

While PSG are considering Sancho as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid, their top priority remains Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. However, this deal is currently stalled due to Napoli’s huge asking price, which the French club are unwilling to meet.

According to the report, the Paris-based club also have concerns about how Sancho would fit into Luis Enrique’s playing style and are evaluating his disciplinary record. Despite this, talks are still ongoing, and a deal could be reached if PSG decide to move forward.

The 24-year-old joined Manchester United in 2021 with a high reputation but has not lived up to expectations. He has made 82 appearances for the club, scoring only 12 goals in three seasons.

How Jadon Sancho could fit into Luis Enrique's PSG

If PSG decide to proceed with the deal, they would certainly sign a talented player, who is still just 24. Based on his performances for Borussia Dortmund this year, he could well prove to be a valuable addition for the club.

In Luis Enrique’s system, wingers are typically positioned high and wide, which could suit Sancho’s playing style. Additionally, he has previously played alongside Achraf Hakimi at Dortmund, and the two could form a strong partnership on the right side.

Regarding the English player’s potential fit with PSG, Sunday Times football correspondent Jonathan Northcroft told the Football Transfers podcast that it would be a great opportunity for him to showcase his potential. However, he also expressed concerns about how well the player might adapt to Enrique’s demands.

“He has to do some growing as a player. He’s 24. Although he’s had a good pre-season, I don’t see him and Ten Hag as a fit going forward. For Sancho to fulfill what he could fulfill, it has to be elsewhere, and PSG is a great opportunity for him. But if you go to PSG and you’re playing for Luis Enrique, it would be up to him to adapt in that extra way that he still hasn’t quite done." (via football transfers)

Sancho’s career at United isn’t completely over yet, as he might play in the Community Shield match against his former club, Manchester City, on Saturday, August 10. Following that, Manchester United will start their Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 16, before facing Brighton & Hove Albion the following week.
