“Played against him, he’s sh***.” - Championship star makes bizarre Cristiano Ronaldo claim

Portugal v Slovenia: Round of 16 - UEFA EURO 2024
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo

Championship striker Sammie Smodics made a strange assessment of Cristiano Ronaldo in a recent challenge. The Republic of Ireland international said that Ronaldo did little to impress him on the pitch.

Szmodics has featured for many teams in the lower leagues of English football, turning out for Brain Tree Town, Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers, Peterborough and Colchester United. He has made 355 club appearances, scoring 107 times and assisting 39.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has made 1013 club appearances for some of the best clubs in the world, like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. With 759 goals and 238 assists, the Portuguese legend is revered as one of the best players ever, winning five Ballon d'Or awards.

However, these accolades haven't impressed the Blackburn Rovers star Szmodics, who said about his meeting with Ronaldo:

“Played against him. Ge’s sh***.”

While Cristiano Ronaldo might not lose any sleep over the Blackburn Rovers star's comments, it remains to be seen how his fans respond.

Wes Brown hails Cristiano Ronaldo for his mentality

Wes Brown has hailed his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo for his immense mentality and tipped him to return to his best. The legendary striker has been the subject of heavy criticism following a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, where he went scoreless in five games.

At the Stats Perform at the home of Adidas football in Berlin, Brown discussed his former teammate, saying via Fotmob:

"Mentality (wise), there's no one better. There were a lot of people I was talking to, and they thought he might not even start games."

He went on to rubbish claims that the Portuguese legend cannot perform at the highest level following a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign:

"I totally disagreed and thought he's still got it to perform. He will be disappointed he's not scored, but he's a team player. He has won the competition before, and he just wants to do well, helping the team.”

Brown is aware of Cristiano Ronaldo's abilities after sharing the locker room with him at Manchester United. The 39-year-old striker will now turn his attention towards a new season with his club side Al-Nassr.
