Eddie Howe has responded to recent rumors suggesting that he could be England's next manager after Gareth Southgate. He has affirmed that he remains focused on Newcastle United, dismissing the prospect of coaching the Three Lions.

England failed to end their prolonged trophy drought after losing to Spain in the Euro 2024 final last Sunday, July 14. Gareth Southgate's side suffered a 2-1 defeat against La Roja.

Two days after their loss, Southgate announced his decision to resign from the role, having managed the Three Lions for eight years. Reports now claim that they have begun their search for a replacement, with Eddie Howe and former Chelsea boss Graham Potter on their list.

Howe, however, has committed himself to Newcastle, adding that the rumors were unexpected. The Englishman said in an interview with Sky Sports:

"It's been a strange one for me because I've been absolutely cut off from [the rumours]. Fortunately I'm out here [in Germany]. So it's only through a mobile phone or someone telling me something that you hear about it.
"My commitment to Newcastle is unwavering and it has been since I came to the football club. As long as I have certain things for me - as in I'm happy, I'm allowed to work in the way I need to work in order to get the best out of me and I feel supported - then that will never change."
"England is not important at all. It's all about Newcastle United Football Club. I'm so proud to be the manager. I've loved every single second of managing the club since I've been here, I feel passionately about bringing success here long-term."

According to some reports, former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is interested in coaching the Three Lions.

"He ticks every box" - Paul Merson names ideal candidate to replace Gareth Southgate as England boss

Paul Merson believes Frank Lampard would be the ideal manager to replace Gareth Southgate. The pundit insists that he would have the former Chelsea manager over Eddie Howe and Graham Potter.

Merson highlighted the fact that Lampard and Southgate have donned the England shirt during their playing days. Meanwhile, Howe and Potter never earned caps for their country.

He said:

“I like Frank Lampard. The big advantage that Gareth had [was that] he played at tournaments [with England]. He lived international football and that's a big advantage. Frank has been deep into tournaments [as a player with England], he was part of teams that were really fancied and failed miserably. That's a big experience. I like that shout [for him to become the next England boss]."
"He ticks every box. Eddie Howe and Graham Potter never played for their country so it's hard [for them] to sit there and say to someone you've got to be feeling like this [ahead of a big game]. So I'd go Frank Lampard."

During his playing days, Lampard contributed 29 goals and 12 assists in 106 appearances for the Three Lions. Meanwhile, Southgate earned 57 caps for his country, recording two goals.
