Pep Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City expires in June 2025, and there's widespread conjecture that the Spanish tactician won't sign an extension, opting instead for a break after nearly a decade with the club. However, Guardiola wants to ensure City remain dominant in the Premier League and has reportedly suggested two players as ideal replacements for key figures in the squad.

According to El Nacional, Pep Guardiola has recommended Manchester City to bring on board Bayern Munich stars Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala.

The report claims that Guardiola sees Bayern Munich’s Kimmich as the perfect partner for Rodri, who could also deputize for the Spaniard if necessary.

Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern expires at the end of the season. Hence, the Cityzens will have an opportunity to secure him on a free transfer, though they will face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona, as per El Nacional.

Alongside Kimmich, Guardiola has also recommended Bayern's Jamal Musiala as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. The former Barcelona gaffer has identified the German international as one of the brightest young talents in Europe. Musiala, whose contract runs until 2026, is also being monitored by Madrid and Barcelona, and his price could rise above €100 million if a bidding war ensues.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City facing risk of losing key midfielder: Reports

Real Madrid have identified Manchester City’s star midfielder Rodri as their primary transfer target for next summer, according to Fichajes (via Caught Offside). Reports suggest Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is willing to offer €130 million to secure his signature.

The Spanish international, who played a pivotal role in Manchester City's treble-winning 2022-23 campaign, is seen as irreplaceable by manager Pep Guardiola. However, Los Blancos are determined to land the 28-year-old in their bid to strengthen their midfield.

Rodri is yet to feature for Manchester City this season after being granted additional time off following his involvement in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph. City have gotten off to a strong start in the midfielder's absence, winning their first three matches of the Premier League season.

With the international break soon coming to an end, Rodri is expected to return to the starting lineup, where his importance to Guardiola’s system will once again be highlighted.

The interest from Real Madrid could put City in a difficult position, especially with speculation surrounding Guardiola’s future.
