Fans on X have reacted after Liverpool manager Arne Slot seemingly took a dig at Manchester United. The Dutch manager indirectly suggested that the Red Devils are a 'bottom league' side in a post by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on X.

“Everybody tells me that a top league table team is harder to beat than a bottom league table team… and we have not faced one of them yet," Slot was reported to have said by Romano.

Slot was brought in to replace Jurgen Klopp after the former Liverpool manager stepped down from his role at the end of the 2023-24 season. There were concerns that the Merseyside club could struggle without Klopp, but Slot has delivered the goods since taking up the job at Anfield.

Under his tutelage, Liverpool have been firing on all cylinders. They are top of the Premier League table with 15 points from a possible 18, and have scored 12 goals, conceding just twice.

One of his side's standout performances thus far was a 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are supposedly the only "big six" club Liverpool have faced this term. However, Slot's reported comments suggest that the manager does not consider Erik ten Hag's side to be a top-league table team.

Manchester United have suffered a poor start to the season and currently languish in 13th position, thus, giving weight to Slot's comment. Fans on X have reacted to the comment, citing the dig at the Manchester club.

"No way he just cooked Manchester United," a fan wrote.
"See stray bullet thrown at man United," another fan said, highlighting the cheeky dig by the Liverpool manager.
"Didn't this guy play man united? Oh sorry he meant top teams," another posted.
"So bro basically said United is a mid table club, I'm starting to like this man," one fan added.
"Not the first time this season he's humbled United," yet another fan chimed in.

Liverpool's next league game is away at Crystal Palace on October 5. However, they will face a huge test after the international break as they host a rejuvenated Chelsea side at Anfield on October 20.

Former Manchester United manager picks his preferred replacement for struggling Erik ten Hag

As per a report by Gazzetta Della Sport, ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has chosen Massimiliano Allegri as Erik ten Hag's replacement if the Dutch manager eventually gets the sack.

Ten Hag is currently under immense pressure, and his future at the club hangs in the balance after a slow start to the season. Now, according to the aforementioned report, Ferguson wants the club to hire Allegri if the need for a new coach arises.

The Italian manager is currently in between jobs after being sacked by Juventus last season. Although he has never coached outside Italy, the 57-year-old manager has a track record of winning trophies. He won five consecutive Serie A titles with Juventus between 2014-2019 and led them to two Champions League finals (2015, 2017), finishing as runner-up on both occasions.
