Wrexham star James McClean has appeared to send a sly dig at Chelsea defender Levi Colwill after their bust-up in the friendly between their sides. The veteran Irishman is set to lead his Welsh side into their first season in League One, and they have started pre-season excellently.

McClean led his Red Dragons to a 1-1 draw against Premier League outfit Bournemouth before they played out a 2-2 draw against Chelsea on July 24. The Irish midfielder was part of a fiery encounter against the Blues, which saw him clash with Colwill at the start.

Levi Colwill took exception to a challenge on him by the 35-year-old McClean just two minutes into the game, leading to a scuffle. The English defender grabbed the Wrexham man by his collar and a shoving match ensued before their teammates and officials intervened.

A known boxing enthusiast, James McClean has often been spotted working out in boxing gyms to keep up his fitness. Following his clash with Levi Colwill, he posted a picture on his Instagram story of him in a boxing and fitness gym after a session, adding a cheeky caption.

Colwill played only one half of the game for Chelsea at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara as coach Enzo Maresca opted for a different XI in the second half. The Blues required an 82nd-minute goal from French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu to salvage a draw against the lower-division side.

Levi Colwill set to start for Chelsea in Celtic friendly

English defender Levi Colwill has retained his place in the starting XI for Chelsea against Scottish champions Celtic in their second pre-season friendly on July 27. The Blues will be out to pick up a first win of pre-season when they take on Celtic at the Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana.

Blues coach Maresca has decided against wholesale changes to the starting XI for the game, making only two changes. Summer signing Tosin Adarabioyo and teenage star Tyrique George have made way for Wesley Fofana and Mykhailo Mudryk from the start.

Enzo Maresca has the same squad in place for the game, with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Axel Disasi left out completely. New addition Marc Guiu leads the line once again in the absence of the injured Nicolas Jackson, while Armando Broja starts from the bench.

Portugal U-21 international Renato Veiga was the only outfield player not to come off the bench against Wrexham. The 20-year-old will be keen to make his debut for the side.
