Mohamed Salah names surprise teammate as fastest Liverpool star

Mohamed Salah has been Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has been Liverpool's talisman since arriving in 2017.

Mohamed Salah, who is considered as one of the fastest wingers in the world, has suggested that Darwin Nunez is Liverpool's fastest star now.

With the Paris Olympics 2024 currently dominating the world of sports, Reds stars were queried a host of Olympics-themed questions in a video for Liverpool's social media team. The Egyptian ace said:

"100-meter sprint... I would go for Darwin!"

Netherlands international Cody Gakpo added on the same topic:

"100-meter sprint... I put myself in there."

Nunez, 24, has emerged as one of the major topics of discussion in the recent past with his divisive performances for his club. He has drawn scrutiny from pundits due to his tendency of missing big chances.

The Uruguayan, who arrived from Benfica in a potential £85 million switch in 2022, has scored 33 goals in 96 appearances for Liverpool so far. The 24-year-old striker has laid out 17 assists in 59 starts so far.

Ex-Liverpool captain hails Mohamed Salah, reveals fear about Egyptian winger's future

Speaking recently on talkSPORT, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson shared his two cents on Mohamed Salah's displays in the Reds' ongoing pre-season. He said (h/t Empire of the Kop):

"He has [looked sharp in pre-season], and it's fantastic for all Liverpool fans to see Mo with that energy again. And I know Jurgen Klopp... people will talk about the spat on the touchline down at West Ham [in a 2-2 league draw last season], and maybe that was a little bit Jurgen's time was coming to an end, but he seems invigorated now. And it's all wonderful, but he has not signed a contract."

Opining on two other Reds players' respective futures, he concluded:

"Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has not signed a contract, Virgil van Dijk has not signed a contract. These are three big players. We can ill afford with our finances to allow them to go for nothing at the end of the season."

Salah, who has contributed a goal and two assists in four pre-season games so far this summer, has a contract until June 2025 at the Anfield outfit. As a result, he has continued to be linked with a permanent move away from his club to the Saudi Pro League in the last year.

Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also currently in the final 11 months of their deal. While the former will turn 34 next year, the latter has reportedly drawn interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
