Arne Slot passes cheeky comment on Liverpool star after win against Wolves

Liverpool manager Arne Slot made a cheeky comment in response to Ibrahima Konate's claims after the Reds' 2-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux. The Merseyside giants were not at their best against the Midlands club on Saturday, September 28, but secured all three points to rise to the top of the table.

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate scored the opener for Arne Slot's side with a header (45+2') but made an error which led to Wolves' equalizer (56'). The Merseyside giants, however, came up with a quick reply with Mohamed Salah converting a spot-kick won by Diogo Jota (61').

Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was named the Player of the Match following the game but Konate claimed that he deserved the award more. The France international said, as quoted by The Mirror:

"Sky Sports, Sky Sports, who decided who is man of the match? How is this possible? It's my brother, I have to give it to him. Milan I score, today I score, I saved one, what happened? You have to talk with them whoever decided."

However, Arne Slot took a cheeky dig at his star defender following his comments and insisted that his side conceded a poor goal. The Dutchman said:

"Konate? Ibrahima Konate? OK. Then he maybe forgot the moment that we conceded the goal. Maybe that was the reason why we conceded, he wasn't there at the moment because to say the least it was avoidable."

Slot added:

"The goal we conceded was definitely avoidable and it was unnecessary. It came at a bad time because we had total control over the game. By conceding this way, they came back into the game and the good thing for us, is we immediately scored to make it 2-1. With only one goal making the difference, it makes it a difficult game until the end."

Liverpool have enjoyed a solid start to life under Slot having won seven of their first eight games across competitions. With five wins in six Premier League games, they have climbed to the top of the Premier League table.

Gary Neville names Liverpool's best player from their 2-1 win against Wolves

Former Manchester United full-back turned pundit Gary Neville has named Ryan Gravenberch's as Liverpool's best player in their 2-1 win against Wolves. Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah scored for the Reds while Rayan Ait-Nouri found the back of the net for Gary O'Neil's side.

Following the game, Neville was full of praise for Gravenberch who has been a revelation this season. The pundit said, as quoted by Rousing the Kop:

“I think the best player has been Gravenberch. He’s in really good form and he’s been good again. So, he gets it.”

Gravenberch has been exceptional for Liverpool this season following Arne Slot's arrival this summer. The Dutchman registered a 92% passing accuracy against Wolves while winning three tackles, eight duels and making six recoveries.
