According to a report by the Telegraph, Manchester United have included an interesting condition for Chelsea to sign Jadon Sancho permanently. The winger joined the West London club on loan on Deadline Day with a clause that could make the deal permanent.

According to the report, The Blues will have to sign the England international if they finish in the top 14 in the Premier League this season. The Stamford Bridge-based club have not finished as low as 15th in the 21st century.

Sancho joined United for €85 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 and went on to be one of the worst pound-for-pound signings in the club's history. His return of 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances left a lot to be desired from a player of his caliber.

The 24-year-old will now be expected to repay Chelsea's faith in him with better performances following his move from Manchester United. He will be keen to avoid mirroring the situation of Juan Sebastian Veron, another expensive Red Devils signing who failed to impress at either club earlier in the century.

How Jadon Sancho's relationship with Manchester United broke down ahead of Chelsea switch

Jadon Sancho's time at Manchester United was characterized by poor form and inconsistent performances before his announced loan deal to Chelsea this summer.

The breaking point in his relationship with the club came last season after Erik ten Hag opted to leave the winger out of the team to face Arsenal. The Dutch manager said at the time (via GOAL):

"On his performance on training we didn't select him. You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. You can make choices in the front line, so in this game, he wasn't selected."

The winger responded on social media with criticism of his manager, posting (via GOAL):

"Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair!

Jadon Sancho's reply would see him exiled from the team. He would eventually spend the second half of the season back at Borussia Dortmund on loan. Now, just under a year since his outburst, the Englishman has departed Manchester United on loan to Chelsea in a deal that will likely see him remain in London for the foreseeable future.
