Manchester United and Bayern Munich have seen a transfer target slip out of their hands as Xavi Simons has reportedly sealed a loan return to RB Leipzig. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch midfielder has decided to spend the 2024-25 campaign back in Leipzig on loan from parent club Paris Saint-Germain.

Dutchman Simons signed for PSG in a €6 million move from Eredivisie outfit PSV last summer after impressing in the Netherlands. He did not, however, play a game for the French giants before heading out on loan to RB Leipzig in the same window.

Bayern Munich director Max Eberl was responsible for the Dutchman joining Leipzig last summer and tried to take him to Munich this time around. Manchester United were also reportedly interested in the youngster, who made his intentions to leave PSG clear once again.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the youngster is set to re-join RB Leipzig on another season-long loan deal after an agreement was struck with PSG. The 21-year-old will have his medical next week before joining the German outfit for the 2024-25 season.

Xavi Simons had reportedly made up his mind to seek a permanent exit from Les Parisiens this summer after starring for Netherlands at Euro 2024. The French side decided against selling him permanently, instead allowing him to leave on another loan deal.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United will have to pursue other targets after missing out on Simons this summer. The Dutchman recorded 10 goals and 15 assists for the German club in 2023-24 before recording a goal and three assists at the Euros.

Manchester United closing in on signing Bayern Munich star - Reports

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Matthijs De Ligt from Bayern Munich this summer, as per Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils remain locked in negotiations with the German giants over the transfer of the Dutch defender to Old Trafford.

De Ligt has been one of the top targets for Erik ten Hag's side this summer, with the Dutchman having reached an agreement on personal terms in June. Bayern Munich are holding out for a fee of €50 million to sell the centre-back, who is keen on a move this summer.

Manchester United have been thrust into a bit of a panic following the injury suffered by new signing Leny Yoro this summer. They will look to speed up a potential deal for De Ligt before the start of the Premier League season.
