Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has opened up about his rumored links for the England job. He asserted that he is currently focused on City and the upcoming season.

The Three Lions parted ways with Gareth Southgate after the UEFA Euro 2024, where they lost 2-1 against Spain in the final in Berlin on July 14. Southgate managed the side for eight years, leading them to two Euro finals, one FIFA World Cup semi-final, and one World Cup quarter-final.

Following his departure, there is plenty of speculation about the next England manager. Reports claimed that the English FA are open to waiting for Pep Guardiola's contract with Manchester City to expire next season to hire him. When asked about these links, the Spaniard said (via Evening Standard):

“I’m really excited for this season that’s coming. Like every season I need the break, I need it definitely, but after that I charge my batteries and I have the same energy like usual and I know the competition is coming, I will be who we are, who I am. I’m completely focused on that.”

Guardiola arrived at Manchester City and has led them to immense success. He's won six Premier League titles, including the last four and one UEFA Champions League trophy, among numerous other honors.

Pep Guardiola on Manchester City's summer transfer business

Manchester City are known to be big spenders and remain active in the transfer window. However, their only signing this summer has been winger Savinho from Troyes for just over £30 million.

When asked whether he expects the club to make more signings, Pep Guardiola said (via The Guardian):

“If someone leaves, we’re going to talk about that. Of course, until the last day, we have chances [to make transfers]. I don’t rule it out the option to have new players but I think there is an 85-90% chance we will have the same squad.
“I feel comfortable, because the quality of human beings we have in the squad is difficult to be replaced, and the quality is there. But we’ll see. I don’t know in the last moment if someone comes for some players and they leave, we’re going to decide.”

Guardiola also confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne will stay with Manchester City amidst rumors linking him with a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
