Liverpool and PL rivals will be asked to pay release clause fee in excess of £70m if target signs new deal with current side - Reports

Liverpool and the other Premier League teams interested in signing Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi have learned that the Englishman's asking price could increase soon. According to Pete O'Rourke, Guehi may soon sign a new contract with the Eagles, which will include a release clause worth more than £70m.

Guehi was targeted by many teams in the summer transfer window after a series of quality displays for his club. His performances for England at Euro 2024 further confirmed his status as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke has claimed that Crystal Palace want to tie down Marc Guehi to a new contract, who was named the club's captain this summer. After turning down multiple offers for the centre-back, they are prepared to offer him an improved contract with a release clause.

Liverpool were linked with the 24-year-old but did not submit an offer as they weighed up a move. Newcastle United saw multiple offers, including one reportedly reaching up to £65 million, turned down for the Chelsea academy graduate.

The report indicates that the new release clause will be higher than the £70 million quoted by the Eagles for the defender this summer. Liverpool and the remaining Premier League sides interested in signing Marc Guehi will have to splash the cash if they are to land him.

Guehi battled with injury in the 2023-24 season, making only 29 appearances across all competitions for Crystal Palace. He helped them keep eight clean sheets in those games, forming an effective partnership with Joachim Andersen in defence. He went on to help keep two clean sheets in six appearances for England at Euro 2024 in the summer.

Liverpool manager nominated for Premier League award

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August. The Dutch tactician has led his side to three consecutive league wins to start the 2024-25 season, all without conceding a goal.

Slot replaced Jürgen Klopp this summer and appears to be at home in the Liverpool set-up, continuing from where his predecessor left off. His approach earned him nine points from a possible nine and a nomination for the Manager of the Month.

Arne Slot was nominated alongside Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler for the award.
