Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spoke about the possibility of taking up the England managerial post following Gareth Southgate's departure. The German claimed that while a return to management may not be imminent, he admitted that he would like to return to the sport in some capacity.
Speaking at the International Coaches' Congress in Wurzburg, he said:
"That would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said, 'I'll make an exception for you. I will work at something. I'm too young to just play padel and only spend time with my grandchildren.
"Will it be coaching again? I would actually rule that out at the moment. We'll see how things look in a few months. Right now, nothing is coming through."
Klopp enjoyed a great stint at Liverpool after replacing Brendan Rodgers in November 2015. The former Borussia Dortmund manager led the Reds to their first Premier League triumph in 30 years when they won in the 2019-20 season while they also lifted the Champions League once.
He announced his intention to leave the club in January this year, stating that the pressure of management was getting to him. The Reds have replaced him with former Feyenoord coach Arne Slot.
The search for the next England manager continues after Gareth Southgate stepped down following the Three Lions' loss in the finals of Euro 2024. The likes of Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino have been named as possible candidates.
Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool hold concrete interest in Newcastle United star
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano stated that Liverpool continue to hold a desire to sign Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said:
"What I wanted to tell you tonight is that what I'm hearing is the interest from Liverpool in Anthony Gordon remains a strong interest, remains a concrete interest.
"He's a player they really rate internally, a player they really like. The name of Anthony Gordon remains high on Liverpool's list."
This comes after a possible deal between the two sides was discussed involving the 23-year-old late in June as the Magpies faced difficulties in meeting Financial Fair Play regulations.
Gordon could be a key addition to a Liverpool side who have not made a significant move in this transfer window yet. He was brilliant for Newcastle last year, bagging 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 games.
