Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher reveals his all-time Reds XI

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has named his all-time XI snubbing Trent Alexander-Arnold from the place in his side. The Reds are the most decorated club in English football and are a European royalty having won six Champions Leagues over the years.

Hence, Liverpool fans have witnessed so many top players gracing the pitch at Anfield. Jamie Carragher, who is the second-highest appearance maker for the Merseyside giants, has named his all-time XI to have played for the club.

Only two current players have made Carragher's XI in the form of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Carragher has picked Ray Clemence between the sticks ahead of current keeper Alisson Becker because of the Englishman's exceptional trophy cabinet.

Carragher also named Phil Neal ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold due to the former's success in terms of trophies.

Carragher said, as quoted by Football 365:

“I would go with Ray Clemence, just, over Alisson, just for the fact he won so many trophies. Right-back, [options are] Phil Neal or Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. When you think of players who played for say AC Milan and stuff like that, we go, ‘He’s won the European Cup four or five times’, we go, ‘Wow, Madrid and Barça players’ – Phil Neal won four European Cups, it’s unbelievable that. I think if I was asked this question at the end of Trent’s career I’d probably say Trent, but I will go with Phil Neal for the fact that he’s won four European Cups."

Carragher did not pick himself at the heart of the defence and opted for Alan Hansen and current captain Virgil van Dijk. He picked Steve Nicol at left-back ahead of Andy Robertson.

The former England defender added:

“I would go with Virgil van Dijk and Alan Hansen [at centre-back], I think that would be a great partnership. Andy Robertson may come into the equation. He’s done unbelievably [well]. But I’m going to go for Steve Nicol. He played left-back and he had a great combination with the guy in front who is going to play: John Barnes in that late ’80s team. Steve Nicol was a player a little bit similar to me – right-back, centre-back, left-back – but I think he was that good for Liverpool he’s got to be in the team. So I’ll go with Steve Nicol at left-back."

Carragher picked Graeme Souness and Steven Gerrard in the middle of the park picking Mohamed Salah and John Barnes on the flanks. The former England defender said:

“Souey [Graeme Souness] has to be in central midfield. So I’ve got John Barnes on the left, I’ve got Graeme Souness in the middle alongside Steven Gerrard. On the right, I think there’s two options. Before Mo Salah joined the club, I would always play a completely different player, Ian Callaghan. He is the only player who has played more games for Liverpool than me, he played 860 games."

He added:

“He won the Second Division with Liverpool and I think one of his last games was the 1977 European Cup final. So you think of that journey of being a Second Division player, a local player and he’s played the most games. But Mo Salah has got to go in on that right side."

Carragher named the front two of Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush who led the attack for the Reds during their most successful period. The pundit added:

“Kenny Dalglish has got to play. Ian Rush goes in because of what he won. I think if Luis Suarez would have won the league with Liverpool… he won one trophy with Liverpool, I think if he got a league title and European Cup to his name, I think I would have put Luis Suarez in. But Ian Rush, think of what he did in the cup finals against Everton, I was crying on the way home [as a boyhood Everton fan]. Ian Rush has to play.”

Alan Shearer backs Liverpool to beat Bournemouth this weekend

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has backed Liverpool to secure all three points against Bournemouth on Saturday, September 21.

The former Newcastle United wrote in his column for Metro:

"No one saw last week's result coming at Anfield against Nottingham Forest, who deserved the three points. They have had a brilliant start to the season... there's no doubt about that. Liverpool conceded early in Milan which could have rocked them after the weekend, but they came back well to win the game in Italy."

The former England striker added:

"Arne Slot will change things around in the team because of what happened last week and because of the extra game in midweek too. I think they'll have enough, and it'll be a home win for Liverpool."

Arne Slot won his first three Premier League games without conceding but faced a shock loss against Nottingham Forest last weekend. They came back from 1-0 down to win 3-1 against AC Milan in midweek in their Champions League opener.
