Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on Donyell Malen this summer

Liverpool are looking to sign former Arsenal forward Donyell Malen as they remain keen on strengthening their attack this summer. The Reds are preparing for their first season under new manager Arne Slot of the Netherlands.

Slot replaced former manager Jürgen Klopp, who resigned at the end of the 2023-24 season. Despite losing several players, the former Feyenoord manager has yet to make any additions to his squad at Anfield.

Borussia Dortmund man Donyell Malen has become the latest name linked with a move to play under his compatriot Slot at Anfield. CaughtOffside reports that the Reds are interested in signing the 25-year-old forward, whose versatility is one of his strong points. His German club will entertain offers only in the region of £40 million to sell the Dutchman.

Liverpool are not the only side keen on the forward. Arsenal are also interested in signing him. Malen played and learned his trade at the Gunners' academy as a youngster, and is reported to favor a move back to North London if an opportunity arises.

Donyell Malen featured for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, scoring two goals in his four appearances. He also managed 13 goals and three assists in 27 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund in 2023-24.

Malen will likely be signed to provide cover for Mohamed Salah on the right side of the Reds' attack due to his pace and eye for goal. The Reds will continue to keep an eye on him before deciding whether or not to make a move this summer.

Liverpool star picks up injury in pre-season clash

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was left disappointed as he picked up an injury in the Reds' first official pre-season match. Arne Slot's side took on La Liga outfit Real Betis in Pittsburgh on Friday (July 26), emerging with a narrow 1-0 win.

Jones walked straight off the pitch and down the tunnel at the half-hour mark, with Slot sending on 17-year-old Trey Nyoni in his place. The England U-21 international struggled with injuries in the 2023-24 season, making only 24 league appearances.

Liverpool did not need Jones to win in Pittsburgh, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah combining for the winning goal in the first half. The Reds have bounced back after a defeat to Preston in an earlier friendly behind closed doors.

Slot's side will next face fellow Premier League heavy-hitters Arsenal on Wednesday (July 31) and Manchester United on Saturday (August 3) in the USA before returning to England.
