Liverpool have identified Sevilla centre-back Loic Bade as a possible successor for Virgil van Dijk, according to Caught Offside. The Dutch defender has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield and has yet to sign a new deal.

Van Dijk has been pivotal for the Reds since arriving from Southampton in January 2018, etching his name in the club's folklore.

The 33-year-old has registered 274 appearances across competitions for Liverpool. He has helped the Merseyside giants win one Premier League title and one Champions League among other honors.

The Dutchman is now in the twilight of his career and perhaps a change is in order at Anfield. Arne Slot has taken charge of the club this summer following Jurgen Klopp's departure. The Dutch manager will have a task in his hands replacing one of the finest defenders in the world.

However, Liverpool believe they have found their man in Bade. The French defender has impressed for Sevilla and has apparently convinced the Anfield hierarchy. The 24-year-old reportedly has a £42m release clause in his contract which shouldn't be a problem for the Merseyside club.

Can Loic Bade live up to expectations at Liverpool?

Liverpool cannot afford delays in their succession plans for Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman remains an integral part of the Merseyside club and his potential departure could pose a problem unless addressed immediately.

Loic Bade, meanwhile, has already shown that he has all the ingredients to fill Van Dijk's shoes at Anfield. The Frenchman joined Sevilla on loan from Rennes in January 2023 before his move was made permanent the following summer.

Last season, Bade registered 33 appearances across competitions, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga. His contract with Sevilla runs until 2029. Liverpool are all set to scout him for the remainder of the campaign before making a decision.

Interestingly, the Merseyside giants are also sweating on the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, who are in the final year of their contracts.

The Englishman is reportedly wanted at Real Madrid, who are plotting to sign him on a Bosman move next summer. Salah, meanwhile, won't be short of options either if he decides to leave and the Reds are likely to initiate renewal talks with the duo soon.
