Curtis Jones is back to full training for Arne Slot's Liverpool

Liverpool have received a major boost with Curtis Jones' return to action as they prepare for the resumption of the league season. The Reds will face Nottingham Forest in their first league game following the international break on Saturday (September 14).

Arne Slot could not have dreamt of a better start to life as Liverpool boss with three wins from his opening three league games, seven goals scored and none conceded. The former Feyenoord boss has identified his perfect personnel to start the season but has not had the full squad available until now.

Former England U-21 international Curtis Jones was a key player for the Reds during Jürgen Klopp's time as manager, as he played his way up from the youth team. The 23-year-old picked up a minor muscle problem at the start of the season, which kept him out of action in their last two games.

CaughtOffside has confirmed that Jones has completed his recovery program and was part of the first-team training at Liverpool this week. The midfielder is racing to be available for the game against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Curtis Jones made 36 appearances for the Reds in the 2023-24 season and recorded five goals and three assists as they won the Carabao Cup. The young midfielder will hope to get a chance to feature for the side as Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is doubtful for Saturday's game.

Alongside Jones, Arne Slot had the opportunity to work with new signing Federico Chiesa in training, as he builds up his fitness. The forward is expected to make his debut for the club on Saturday.

Liverpool star dropped from national team squad amid injury fears

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been left out of Argentina's XI to face Colombia in their CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier (Tuesday, September 10). Leandro Paredes has replaced the former Brighton & Hove Albion man in the XI for the clash in Barranquilla.

Mac Allister was on the scoresheet for La Albiceleste when they defeated Chile 3-0 on September 5, but had to leave the game early. He went off the pitch to be replaced by Alejandro Garnacho, and this was attributed to an injury he picked up during the game.

The South American champions are up against Colombia in a rematch of the 2024 Copa America final (Argentina won 1-0), and Mac Allister is on the bench. Arne Slot and the Liverpool management will keep a close eye on the midfielder to assess his fitness levels before he returns to the club.
