Juventus couple's salary comes to light after wage disparity complaints

The reported salary of Juventus star Alisha Lehmann has come to light after she complained about the wage disparity between her and her partner Douglas Luiz. The couple both play football professionally and recently completed a groundbreaking joint move from Aston Villa to the Turin-based club.

Alisha Lehmann reportedly earns $200,000 a year at Juventus while Douglas Luiz earns $9.2 million yearly for the men's team. This means the Brazilian earns 46 times more than his significant other. Alisha told Gazetta in a recent interview:

“It’s something that affects me because I’m a woman. Obviously, there’s still a long way to go on the path we’re on because there may never be equal pay.”

The pay disparity between the men's and women's players is unlikely to change anytime soon, with the wages a direct result of the popularity of both sports. The Swiss star hopes she can continue to raise awareness off the pitch while attracting attention on it to help change the fortunes of other women in the game.

What Juventus star Douglas Luiz's girlfriend Alisha Lehmann said about the wage gap

Juventus star Douglas Luiz and his girlfriend Alisha Lehmann both play for the Italian giants after joining from English side Aston Villa last summer. Despite that, the duo has a large wage disparity, with the couple earning very different amounts at the club.

The disparity made Lehman publicly complain in an interview, telling La Repubblica:

"After training, I often tell Douglas that it's unfair. We do the same job but he earns 100,000 times more than me."

Alisha remains content with her new club, adding:

“I’m very happy to be here. The girls are nice and we help each other on the pitch; I think I’ve made the best decision, Juventus is a great club. If you join them, you can win. My career goal is also to win trophies. The team is like a second family, and I am ready to learn from my teammates."
"I like talking to people with more experience than me because you can always learn something. Perhaps social media will push people to follow women’s football more. It’s a developing process that takes time.”

Alisha Lehman and Douglas Luiz have not featured regularly for the Italian side since they arrived this summer. The Brazillian has featured in three games, coming off the bench while his Swiss partner has made one appearance from the bench.
