Journalist Dean Jones recently opened up on Chelsea's links to Brentford striker Ivan Toney. Speaking to GiveMeSport, he suggested that the forward could emerge as an alternative for the Blues should they fail to land Victor Osimhen.
He said:
"Moving to Saudi Arabia would benefit Toney financially but I’m not sure where it leaves him in terms of pursuing an England career. He still feels he could play at the highest level in the Premier League so even with the Saudi money tempting him, I think a big Premier League club and a chance to prove himself at the top would be even more tempting.
“Obviously there are not many landing spots for him anymore - Arsenal and Spurs both ruled out and I do not see United coming in for him anymore. So, the main club he could go to would be Chelsea if they fail to land Osimhen, they really have tracked him across this year."
Toney has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. The 28-year-old was omitted from Brentford's squad in their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 18, fuelling rumors of a departure.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have expressed interest in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen throughout the window. After a deal for Atletico Madrid's Samu Omorodion collapsed, the Blues have explored various possibilities to sign the Nigerian frontman. One such idea could see Romelu Lukaku go the other way to join the Serie A side.
Chelsea and Atletico Madrid complete negotiations to swap star players
Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix. According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Blues will pay a fee of around £44.5 million to sign the Portugal international.
The transfer will also see midfielder Conor Gallagher complete his move to Los Rojiblancos in a separate deal. He was stuck in limbo after the two sides' previous agreement involving striker Samu Omorodion fell through at the last moment.
It will be a reunion between Chelsea and Felix. The 24-year-old spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign with the London side on loan, scoring four goals in 20 appearances.
Gallagher, meanwhile, was a key player for the Blues under Mauricio Pochettino last season. He made 50 appearances across all competitions, collecting seven goals and nine assists. However, the arrival of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and the return of Romeo Lavia from injury spelled trouble for the midfielder. The academy graduate is now set to move to Spain for a reported €42 million.
