“It was poor play from him” - Ian Wright slams Arsenal star after being ‘disappointed’ by him in 2-2 draw with Manchester City

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has hit out at Gunners star Leandro Trossard after he received a red card in his side's draw against Manchester City on September 22. The Belgium international became the second Gunner to get sent off in the league this season after he received two first-half bookings.

Former Brighton & Hove Albion forward Trossard continued in midfield for the Gunners in the absence of captain Martin Odegaard. He received both of his bookings in the first half at the Etihad, the second coming right at the end of the half.

Club legend Ian Wright spoke on the Premier League Productions about the forward getting sent off in arguably his side's biggest game in the league. He expressed his disappointment at the turn of events, referring to Trossard's decision as 'poor'.

"I was quite disappointed with Trossard. To kick the ball away. It was poor play from him.”

Leandro Trossard had intentionally barged into the back Manchester City man Bernardo Silva as he sought to bring an aerial ball under his control. As the referee Michael Oliver blew his whistle, the versatile Belgian star then booted the ball away, resulting in him being sent off in first half added time.

Just before the international break this month, the Gunners found themselves in a similar situation when midfielder Declan Rice received his marching orders against Brighton. He got a second yellow card for preventing the restart, and Trossard ought to have learnt from that episode.

The one-man disadvantage eventually cost Mikel Arteta's side, as they could not cope with relentless City pressure for 45 minutes. The champions eventually found a chink in their armor and scored a 98th minute equalizer to deny them what would have been a very famous win.

Late Stones goal spares Manchester City blushes against Arsenal

John Stones was the hero for Manchester City as they played out a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. The England international came off the bench to bundle the ball home in the 98th minute, putting an end to the Arsenal resistance.

City had gone ahead after just nine minutes when Erling Haaland scored his 100th goal for the club, but Arsenal responded swiftly. First, Riccardo Calafiori scored a stunner from range to level matters in the 22nd minute before Gabriel Magalhaes powered home a header off a Bukayo Saka corner.

The Gunners were reduced to ten men by the half-time whistle, and had goalkeeper David Raya to thank for remaining ahead in the second half. They eventually caved in the final minute of added time when Stones bundled home a loose ball inside the box to steal a point.
