Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca reckons his team are on the right track following their 3-0 Premier League win at West Ham United on Saturday (September 21). The Blues are up to third in the standings with their second straight win.
Powered by a first-half brace from Nicolas Jackson and a 47th-minute strike from Cole Palmer, Maresca's side were always in control of proceedings as they coasted to a comfortable win at the London Stadium.
After a 2-0 opening-day home defeat to four-time defending champions, the Blues are now unbeaten in four league games, winning three. Pleased with the progress of his side, Maresca said (as per Chels HQ) while admitting that there's a long road ahead:
"I think we are on the right path. This is a long journey. Because we are in a good moment, it looks like everything is fine, but not everything is fine. We could attack better. We could defend better. The most important thing is how the players work together."
Maresca also said (as per BBC):
"It has been a good game and a good result. The clean sheet has been important. We have many things to improve. We can attack and defend better, but overall going in the right direction."
The Blues next take on Barrow at home in their EFL Cup opener on Tuesday (September 24).
"A tough place to come" - Chelsea forward Cole Palmer after win at West Ham
Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer is happy to come away from West Ham with a win. The 21-year-old had a decent outing at the London Stadium, scoring his team's third goal to put them in the driver's seat.
Following the game, the England international hailed his strike partner Nicols Jackson for his performance in the game, telling TNT Sports (via BBC):
"(It's) a tough place to come and a good three points. We are happy. Everybody knows he (Nicolas Jackson) is a top player - he needs to keep going. The Chelsea fans and players rate him highly - we know what he is capable of.
"There will always be noise. We try to block it out and listen to the manager. We have a good manager, and it can only help us to get better."
Jackson had a superb outing for Maresca's side. Apart from his first-half brace, he also set up Palmer's strike in the second half, with Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo getting the other two assists.
