Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets has looked back fondly at his reunion with former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi. The Argentinian left the Camp Nou in the summer of 2021, while Busquets followed suit two years later.

The duo enjoyed huge success together at Barca between the 2008-09 and 2020-21 seasons, winning titles galore. They include three UEFA Champions League, including two continental trebles and nine La Liga titles, among others.

Busquets stayed on at Barca for two seasons after Messi left before reuniting with him at the Herons last summer. The Spaniard said in the La Primera documentary (as per Inter Miami's website):

“Although we went two years without playing, we'd played together for much longer than those two years, and I think that prevailed. You could see from that first moment how much we'd missed each other after two years apart. It was like a beautiful story that came back together.”

Messi reciprocated:

“I'd already been in Miami for a few days training with my new club and teammates. I wanted to play and be back out there with Busquets after a few years apart, so that was brilliant, and I just wanted to get started.”

The duo are now playing their first full season together in American football.
