Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was one of the reasons why the Blues lost their Premier League game against Liverpool on Sunday, October 20. The west London giants suffered a 2-1 defeat at Anfield.

Goals from Mohamed Salah (29' P) and Curtis Jones (51') were enough to give the home side all three points in the crunch encounter.

Despite the defeat, visitors Chelsea took the game to Liverpool and had 57% possession while registering 12 shots at the Reds' goal.

Reacting to the Blues' display against Arne Slot's men, former Liverpool defender Carragher was quick to point out Chelsea's dominance during the game. He added that they were let down by their goalkeeper, Sanchez.

"In terms of control, Chelsea were better, what let them down was their goalkeeper, they need a new goalkeeper if they want to get back to where they want to be," Carragher said (via @CFCPys on X).

The Spanish shot-stopper could have done better to keep out Jones' strike in the second half. He also had a few shaky moments on the ball and gave away a penalty in the first half, which was later overturned by VAR.

Chelsea captain Reece James remained positive in his post-match remarks despite the Blues' 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. The Englishman made his return to the Blues' starting XI after a lengthy spell out due to injury.

James featured as the right-back for 53 minutes before being replaced by Renato Viega. After the games, he highlighted the team's progression under new manager Enzo Maresca this season.

“If we step back and look at performances and what we are trying to do, we have come a long way. It is still early days, we haven't been with the manager,” James told Sky Sports (via Fabrizio Romano).

Next up for the London giants in the Premier League is a home game against eighth-placed Newcastle United on October 27. The Blues currently sit in sixth position on the league table with 14 points after eight games.
