“I will inform the club and then the press” - Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola opens up on his future amidst contrast saga

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists that he hasn't made a decision on his future yet. The Spaniard's contract at the Etihad expires at the end of this season and he is yet to agree to an extension.

There are concerns that Guardiola's decision could depend on the outcome of the Premier League's investigation of the Cityzens. The reigning champions are undergoing trial for multiple accounts of FIFA Financial Fair Play breaches, with an outcome expected in the coming months.

Speaking recently, as cited by acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Guardiola insisted that he would inform Manchester City as soon as he decided his next move.

“I have made NO decision yet at this stage. When I decide, I will inform the club and then the press... that’s why there is no news, and that's why I don't have to add absolutely anything else. The next game is my only focus,” said Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola has transformed City's fortunes since arriving at the Etihad in July 2016. He has since won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and one Champions League trophy.

City have won the league in the last four seasons, the first team to achieve the feat in the Premier League era. They also completed a historic treble in the 2022/23 campaign.

The reigning champions could face massive points deduction and even relegation from the league depending on the outcome of the trial.

However, even if that happens, Guardiola is apparently ready to stay with the Cityzens, as an act of defiance in support of the club. The former Barcelona manager is settled at the Etihad and enjoys a cordial relationship with the City hierarchy.
