Liverpool superstar casts doubts over his future as contract winds down

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has cast doubts over his future as he enters the final year of his deal at Anfield. The Dutchman's current deal at the Merseyside club expires in the summer of 2025 and he has admitted that he is considering his future at club and international level.

Van Dijk, who captains both Liverpool and the Netherlands, has opened up on his future after the Oranje suffered a 2-1 defeat to England in the Euro 2024 semi-finals. After the game, the 33-year-old said (as quoted by Reuters via The Daily Mail):

“I haven't the slightest idea right now. I will think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international player. Then we'll go for it again, but first recover from this. After a season like this, where all kinds of things have happened, it gets emotional at the end because you know it's over."

Van Dijk enjoyed a solid season with Liverpool last time out, returning to his usual best form following a dip in form. The Dutchman helped the Reds clinch the League Cup although they were in the hunt for a quadruple.

The former Celtic and Southampton star cast doubts on his future after Jurgen Klopp announced his decision to resign from the manager's position. With the Dutchman entering the final year of his deal, Liverpool now have a major reason to be worried.

Journalist claims Liverpool are interested in Bundesliga defender

Reputed journalist Ben Jacobs has reported Liverpool's interest in Eintracht Frankfurt William Pacho. As claimed by Jacobs, the Reds have registered their interest in the Ecuador interest after missing out on Leny Yoro.

Yoro is reportedly admired by the Merseyside giants but the Frenchman is understood to be keen on moving to Real Madrid. The Reds will only move for the Lille wonderkid if a move to Los Blancos does not materialize.

According to Jacobs, Pacho is viewed as a solid alternative to Yoro. He said on Playback, as quoted by The Boot Room:

"Pacho could be one to watch from Frankfurt still, Liverpool really like the player, and they would love Leny Yoro but they'll only move if they feel he's not going to Real Madrid."

Pacho enjoyed a brilliant season for Eintracht Frankfurt last time out and helped his side keep 11 clean sheets in 44 appearances. He has made four appearances for Ecuador in Copa America and has been pretty impressive.
