Rodrygo speaks about his Ballon d'Or snub

Real Madrid star Rodrygo has admitted to being upset about missing out on the 30-man final shortlist for the Ballon d’Or. The Brazilian believed he deserved a spot and was surprised to miss out.

Rodrygo opened up about his initial reaction to not being named among the top 30 for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. He added that there was little in his control and thus he was focused on producing the best with Real Madrid. He told ESPN:

"I was upset, I think I deserved it. I don't want to belittle the players who are there, but I think I had a place in the 30. It was a surprise... But there's not much I can do, I'm not the one who decides these things."

Talking about his post on social media after the list came out, he said:

"I made a somewhat mocking post. Now there's not much to say. Everyone knows my indignation. Everyone [has supported me], both in the national team and at Real Madrid. People sent messages. Often, I'm just filling spaces. Is someone missing there? Put Rodrygo in. Is someone missing on the right? Rodrygo. Is someone missing as No. 9? Rodrygo. That's it. It may get in my way a little, but I'm a team player."

Rodrygo added:

"I want to win all the titles that I have already won several times. Real Madrid is the best club in the world and that is what motivates me, to be at the level of the best club in the world every day. That is why I get up every day to train and to be better."

Rodrygo played 51 matches for Real Madrid last season as they won the UEFA Champions League and La Liga. He finished with 17 goals and nine assists across competitions.

Real Madrid legend Marcelo stunned at Rodrygo not making Ballon d’Or shortlist

Real Madrid legend Marcelo couldn't understand why Rodrygo missed out on the final 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or. The former Brazil international added that his compatriot was at least among the 15 best players in the world.

He said (via @MadridXtra):

“Rodrygo not nominated for the Ballon d’Or? I didn’t understand that. We don’t know what their criteria is. For me, Rodrygo is at least top 15 or top 10 in the world.”

Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham are widely believed to be the favorites to win the Ballon d’Or this year. Manchester City star Rodri is also in the race along with Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal.
