Wesley Fofana has admitted that he considered leaving Chelsea this summer. He claims Marseille wanted to sign him and that there was a conversation with the Ligue1 side.

Speaking to Free Foot, Fofana stated that he was touched by the interest but did not think of the move seriously. The Frenchman added that he wants to become a success at Chelsea and has not ruled out staying at the club until the end of his career. He said:

"I had a conversation that really touched me. I would be lying if I said I didn't weigh it up. It was from Benatia, Marseille's sporting director. It touched me and I think everyone knows why. I thought about it but there you go, the current objective is to succeed at Chelsea, to try and play regularly, and to establish myself at my club."
"But OM, we'll see one day. I still have a contract until 2029 and we'll see after that. I have never hidden it, [Marseille] is my city, my club, I am an OM supporter. We'll see if I end up abeing at Marseille in a few years, or if I stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career," he added.

The Blues signed Fofana from Leicester City for £70 million in 2022. He signed a seven-year deal and has a contract at the club until 2029.

Wesley Fofana has good things to say about Chelsea under Enzo Maresca

Wesley Fofana has claimed that Chelsea have started the season well despite their 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace. He believes the side is getting better under Enzo Maresca and is bound to do well.

The defender added that he was feeling better after being out last season due to an ACL injury. He said:

"We are creating good things. Every game is better. We have more energy, more quality with the ball. When we press, we create good things. Now we need to win games. I enjoy every minute after a long period without football. I'm very happy. Now we cut a little bit [for the international break], and we come back after to play games and win games."

The Blues have started the season with a draw, a win, and a loss. They have five points from their opening three matches but have also played twice in the UEFA Conference League and made it to the group stage.
