“I am here” - Pep Guardiola responds after being pressed by reporters about taking up England head coach role

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has allayed concerns that he could take over the vacant England head coaching job. The Three Lions job is up for grabs after Gareth Southgate resigned following the team's second straight European Championship final defeat.

Southgate's side did well to reach successive Euro finals but went down 2-1 to Spain in the Berlin final as their 58-year wait for a major title continued. Three years earlier, they had lost to Italy on penalties in the Wembley final.

Guardiola has been widely reported as one of the contenders for the England job, with his Etihad contract ending next summer. However, he said in a recent press conference that he's happy at the Etihad, effectively ruling himself out of the Three Lions vacancy (as per Sky Sports via GOAL):

"I am here. I'm really pleased, and I cannot say anything. I don't know where it came from but I am really satisfied here, and we will see what happens. I am desperate for when the players are ready to come back to start to train together and what we have to do."

Guardiola's side won an unprecedented Premier League four-peat last season, becoming the first English side to win four straight league titles and six in seven seasons.
